When four-year-old Laila Johnson went on an adventure with her parents on January 4 and was lucky enough to see an echidna the youngster’s first response was “I wonder if David has seen one before”.
She returned home, drew a picture of the echidna and with the help of her mum sent a letter to David Attenborough in England.
Laila’s mum Sam Johnson said David Attenborough documentaries are Laila’s number one choice when watching television.
“Laila loves David Attenborough but we really didn’t think we would receive any response, let alone a beautiful hand written letter,” Ms Johnson said.
“Laila was so excited, we want to frame the letter but Laila isn’t ready to part with it yet, she carries it around everywhere and tells everyone she sees, whether they are interested or not.”
Laila received the letter less than three weeks after sending her drawing.

Sir Attenborough wrote:
“Dear Laila,
Thank you very much for your drawing of an echidna, I think it is very good.
Echidnas are wonderful animals which I have filmed several times.
You are very lucky to have seen one.
Best wishes,
David Attenborough.”
