Chisholm couldn’t repeat his opening day heroics on Sunday, shooting 78, but it was more than enough to take victory.
He finished four shots clear of Henry Brind to take the title.
Brind fired a wayward 78 on Saturday but loomed as a major danger in the second round before striking trouble on the ninth hole and had a triple bogey.
He then bogeyed the 10th to drop off the pace.
Jarrod Meacham, who started the day in second, finished a further shot behind in third.
Chisholm rated his City of Wagga Open victory as his most special to date.
The 40-year-old was thrilled to come away with the win.
“It was great,” Chisholm said. “I played really great on the first day on the Saturday and I was really happy with the score.
“(Sunday) was a lot tougher, the flags were in a lot tougher positions and the heat was intense, but I just managed to hold it together and get over the line.”
His title success comes after losing in a play-off for the Riverina Open last year and a win in the Leeton Open.
However this title stands above the rest.
“I won a couple of tournaments last year but this one is particularly pleasing,” Chisholm said.
“It is always a really tough field, the course is always set up as tough as it can be so it is a really good test of golf.”
Chisholm thought he was right on song for the title in September last year, before wet weather forced the event to be postponed.
However it didn’t matter.
“I was I really peaking for it last year and when they had to reschedule it it was a bit of a bummer, but to come home with it is really pleasing,” Chisholm said.
Matt Williams took out the A grade handicap.
The event was postponed in September after wet weather forced organisers to move the prestigious event.
However that was far from a concern over the weekend, with competitor met with hot conditions over both days.
Wagga Country Club’s club captain Stephen Childe said virtually a tournament record 208 players were on course on Saturday and 190 on Sunday.
“A lot of players battled the heat but it was very well supported by the locals,” Childe said.
The second feature on Sunday was the Wagga Ladies Open.
Wodonga’s Judy Langford won the title by four shots, finishing clear of Country Club’s Cathy Haggar.
A grade handicap honours with to Margaret Redward.
