Paul Keating
Keating grew up in Bankstown and was elected as the Member for Blaxland in 1969 at the age of 25. He was appointed Treasurer by Bob Hawke in 1983 and challenged him for the leadership in 1991.
Keating was an economic reformer and looked towards Asia for Australia’s future. He lost the 1996 election to John Howard.
