JUVENILE Justice NSW has revealed it will assess infrastructure at Riverina’s “juvie” to prevent detainees from climbing on the roof.

It comes as the department confirmed Friday’s rooftop “revolt”, revealing the situation was peacefully resolved within a number of hours.
“Juvenile Justice staff established a perimeter around the area and negotiated with the detainees who voluntarily surrendered,” a spokesperson said.
“An assessment of the centre’s infrastructure will be undertaken to identify ways to better secure the roof space.
“Juvenile Justice takes the safety and security of staff seriously and Juvenile Justice staff are highly trained to defuse volatile situations.”
The three teenage delinquents allegedly abused passers-by and wielded tree branches during the tense stand-off.
