This weekend the column will be short and sweet cos both of you readers probably have a few other things on your mind (mainly buying the writer of this column a Chrissy present).

I, like most people, leave buying Chrissy pressies to the last minute, if not the VERY last minute but I have an excuse, I am a male and that’s just what we do and nine times out of 10 the recipients end up with fishing gear – too much is never enough – and I can’t see a problem with that, but darling wife and the kids may tend to disagree.
Speaking of fishing, the fishing around the Riverina has been nothing short of fantastic especially for those fishing for BIG cod over the past couple of days.
Rhys Creed, local young fisherman extraordinaire, landed 2 fish over the magic meter on Tuesday night at Blowering (and my constant reply when he sends me the pictures is “I don’t think I like you any more”) and local large lure manufacturer, new to the lure game, Ken Perrin also landed a metery on the same night.
There has been a couple of big cod over the meter caught at Burrinjuck as well and the river has also produced meter plus fish.
For those of you (like me) who’s dream it is to catch one of these behemoths, time on the water is the key, I know Rhys has had a lot of time on the water for no fish and Ken was on a diet of doughnuts for a while as well but persistence pays off, you can’t go fishing once in a blue moon and expect to catch a mammoth, you have to just keep trying and trying no matter what the weather, time , month or whatever, you just have to keep trying and eventually the fishing gods will say – he’s been trying pretty hard lately – and will allow you a big fish, so persistence will pay off eventually so just keep going and you will send me a picture of that fish of a lifetime.
The reddies have been moving a bit as well with good hauls from The Hume and good reports from both Blowering and Burrinjuck.
So over the break there should be no excuse to wet a line and hopefully do a bit more than wash your lure or drown a worm, like I said short and sweet.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas, has a relaxing break and get home safely from wherever you go and don’t forget to say G’day to a stranger as they could turn into you new best mate.
I am going to have a couple of weeks break from the column just to recharge the batteries and hopefully tell you a step by step rundown of me landing my metery so stay safe and I will be back mid January.
