It comes as western Riverina federal member and Health Minister Sussan Ley last week supported a new program to address ill-mental health in rural areas.
Rural Minds will involve RRMH-trained presenters living and working in Riverina communities, with the aim of improving mental health in the area.
Once someone in the community is trained, videos, the presenter’s guide and handbooks, remain in that community.
Fieldwork by RRMH has also found that suicide in some remote areas is 10 per cent higher than in the cities, however, awareness and understanding are key to the prevention of mental ill-health and suicide.
