Former Australian Test bowler Trent Copeland knows what it takes to make it to the top after growing up in the country and has been imparting his wisdom to budding cricketers from the Riverina this week.

Copeland grew up in Bathurst before going on to star for NSW and force his way into the Test arena.
Playing three Tests against Sri Lanka in 2011, the 30-year-old has been in the region giving the Riverina’s youngsters some advice on the pathway towards success.
After spending three days at various stops and school visits he was impressed by some of the skills on display in an area well known for its cricketing talent.
“Being from Bathurst I understand the process and where these kids have to drive an hour to go and play cricket,” Copeland said.
“They have to be really hungry for it but it is great to see so many talented kids.
“If Hatch and I can can impart just a little bit of wisdom or a couple of pointers here and there it has been worthwhile.”

Copeland and Blues rookie Liam Hatcher spent three days in the region as part of the Cricket NSW Country Blitz.
Copeland believes the introduction of Twenty20 cricket and the success of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) have helped increase the popularity of the sport.
He also believes it has helped add to the opportunities available to kids in the country.
“No doubt the Big Bash has had a real impact,” Copeland said.
“Even the WBBL last year getting girls involved in cricket has been awesome to see.
“The opportunities are starting to increase again.
“We are seeing participation levels are starting to go through the roof again which is awesome.”
After visits in Tumut and Gundagai, they made their way to Wagga and were on hand to be part of the selections trials for the Mackillop team.
While the weather forced the session in doors, Copeland and Hatcher were impressed by some of the skills shown.
Primary school students from towns including Griffith, Leeton, Gundagai and Albury travelled to Wagga to try and make their way into the team to play in the NSW PSSSA under 12 carnival in Sydney in November.
