The nation’s obsession with renovations has been once more kicked off by The Block so Wagga style queen Sara Chamberlain, whose employee Julia is a contestant on this year’s series, has revealed some simple ways to give your home a fresh, on-trend look.
The leading style trend according to Ms Chamberlain is “Scandi”, which is uncluttered and relatively inexpensive.
“Declutter and get rid of multiple colours, make it very monochrome, then bring in soft greys and pink and add some live greenery,” she said.
“Then add some textural elements like wool, cowhide or linen and lots and lots of lamps. It’s a very simple, very clean design philosophy.”
The core of the style came from post-war Europe where an abundance of pale timber and mass-production techniques combined with emerging technologies like veneers.
The colour palette is inspired by the northern environment – lots of monochrome with splashes of sky-blue, sunset-pink and leafy green.
“The ‘Scandinavian’ style is actually about 60 years old,” Ms Chamberlain said. “Their culture and aesthetic is about good design being available to everyone, which is what gave birth to things like Ikea.”
