After dominating the Riverina athletics scene for years, McIntyre took the opportunity to travel to Canada with an Australian team last month.
The 16-year-old excelled and returned home with five medals – two gold, one silver and two bronze.
“It was great. To compete at international level with other athletes was a good experience,” McIntyre said.
“Meeting new people, new coaches and learning different coaching techniques, it was really good.”
McIntyre claimed gold medals in high jump, along with silver and bronze in long jump and triple jump at meets in Vancouver and Kelowna.
It continues a big season for the Kooringal High School student, who has qualified for five events at the Combined High Schools (CHS) State Championships in Sydney next month.
McIntyre won all her events at regional level in Albury, long jump, high jump, triple jump, 100 metres and 200m. She also broke the triple jump record that has stood since 2008.
After watching the magic on the track unfold at the Olympic Games in Rio, McIntyre knows what she wants to achieve.
“I was at school every day watching it,” she said.
“I hope to go to the next Olympics in Japan in 2020.”
