To celebrate Social Inclusion Week the Civic Theatre will partner with local choirs, and individuals who love to sing.
To welcome the Australian summer we’re going to create a community choir that will raise the roof of the Botanic Gardens Music Bowl.
This massed choir will showcase a blistering repertoire of your favourite Australian sounds.
The Civic Theatre is taking expressions of interest now and we’d love to hear from you.
Seven reasons why you should join the Wagga Community Choir:
- There are no auditions, if you want to sing you’re in!
- We can all sing , and you’ll get to sing in a big group – your voice will contribute to and build a huge voice – One Voice.
- You’ll get to work with Dr Jonathon Welch AM who is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Choir of Hard Knocks.
- The rehearsal period won’t be long and extensive – it will be short and fun.
- There are no guarantees but you might make some new friends.
- You’ll get to work with Australian Army Band Kapooka and The Groove Factorie who are some of the most talented, ridiculously good natured people we know.
- It’s something a bit different, but not crazy different.
The two nights of performance will take place in Social Inclusion Week: on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19 at 7.30pm and you must be available to participate on both nights.
You must also make a commitment to attend as many of the rehearsals as possible.
To join the choir, please head to our website www.civictheatre.com.au and fill in the expression of interest form (you’ll find a link on the front page).
What is Social Inclusion Week?
SOCIAL Inclusion Week aims to help ensure all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in society.
It’s about connecting local communities, workmates, family and friends in order to build and strengthen relationships and networks, addressing isolation and exclusion by supporting people who may be unable to help themselves.
Who is Dr Jonathon Welch AM?
DOCTOR Jonathon Welch AM will be the choral conductor for this event.
Jonathon is a multi-award winning singer, conductor, teacher, songwriter and recording artist.
He is the Artistic Director of the Choir of Hard Knocks, has won ARIA, Logie and Helpmann awards, was the Australian of the Year and Local Hero in 2008, Anzac of the year in 2009 and is the creator of Social Inclusion Week.
Bring a picnic supper or purchase dinner from the food vendors on the night.
In the event of bad weather this event will be cancelled.
If you’re interested in this event but you aren’t available on both nights, or you’d prefer to watch you can just sing along on the night.

THE first free concert will be at the Victory Memorial Gardens as part of the band’s community engagement program and to help raise awareness of domestic abuse.
Head to the gardens on Wednesday, August 24 from noon to 1.30pm.
The second and third free concerts will be on Wednesday, September 7 here at the Civic Theatre, at midday and again at 6pm.
The theme of both shows is “100 years of the Anzac Spirit” and the band will perform music that is either associated with conflicts that Australia has been involved in or music that is iconic to that period of time.
The points in history that will be touched on include WWI and WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Peace Keeping duties and Modern Operations.
You’ll hear a diverse range of songs including In The Mood, Jail House Rock, Paint It Black and many more.
Even though both concerts at the theatre are free, they are ticketed.
