Walsh will join some of the Lions’ all-time greats when he runs out for his 200th first grade game when GGGM host Leeton-Whitton at Ganmain Sportsground.
Walsh has been a constant through a golden era at GGGM, bursting onto the scene as a fresh-faced 16-year-old in 2003 and going on to play in seven premierships.
Walsh is proud of the 200-game achievement but does not want it to get in the way of the task at hand as GGGM attempt to keep their season alive.
“I’m looking forward to it, it’s not something I’ve put too much thought into but it’s a nice achievement I suppose,” Walsh said.
“I’m more worried about beating Leeton really. That’s the main priority.”
The Lions this week dropped outside the top five for the first since since round four after a loss to Griffith.
GGGM face a tough run home but Walsh said they have not given up hope.
“We’re still a chance,” he said.
“It’s obviously going to be really hard now and I think we will have to beat Leeton-Whitton and Tigers in the next two weeks, then we finish with four points for the bye. Plus we will need Collingullie to lose to Leeton.
“It’s going to be hard...but if we put it in now then we’ve definitely got no hope. All we can do is try to beat Leeton this week and see what’s next after that.”
Upon reflecting on his 200 games, Walsh named the 2004 and 2008 premierships as most memorable. The 2004 success was his first, while he explained how 2008 meant so much due to the Lions being written off .
Walsh named Daniel Rankin, Christen McPherson and Shane Lenon among the best he has played with. He said Ben Perkins, Matt Hard and Mick Duncan were his toughest opponents.
Walsh, 29, said it is an honour to join GGGM’s 200 Club.
“There has been some pretty good footballers play 200 games so to join that group is something I’ll be pretty proud of.”
