Lockhart coach Shane Lenon doesn’t play footy anymore, but that hasn’t spared him from the jokes circulating around the club about him exchanging shorts for lycra.
“I certainly do (cop some flak) but it’s all in good fun,” Lenon said.
“Cycling’s a good way to stay fit, it’s a really good, positive sport. It’s good to be able to ride in memory of a cyclist who died in a road accident.”
He’s been training under the guise of Wagga cycling veteran Wayne Collingwood and alongside in-form teen Jake Brooker, who will also take part in the Wagga to Albury race.

“If I could get a bet on, I’d have a few dollars on young Jake Brooker,” Lenon said.
“I’ve been doing a bit of training with him and I can’t keep up.”
Lenon has been hooked on the sport since he bought a road bike to recover from a knee operation. He will have a head-start on the field, as he starts in D Grade.
“I’m hoping to finish with the group," he said.
“There’s no pressure, it’s something I haven’t done before.”
