Uranquinty had a tighter than expected contest with Turvey Park, but still managed to secure a 45 to 31 win on Saturday in the Creaghe Lisle Cup competition.

The first quarter was all about defence with Claudia and Lauren Barton, and Jaimee Smith starting well for Turvey Park, while at the other end Ella Finemore, Bree Wood and Grace Cornell for Quinty all matched the defensive pressure of their opposition.
The defensive efforts of both teams thwarted the attempts of the shooters leading to an 11-all draw at the quarter break.
The Quinty shooters lifted in the second quarter and with more opportunity through the good feeding of Tameka Scott and Olivia Tilyard, they outscored the Turvey team 13 goals to six.
The third quarter was again won convincingly by the Quinty team, 11-4, and was a result of strong play from all seven players on court.
The fourth quarter was much closer due to great shooting by Turvey Park’s Nicky Gallagher and a strong defensive effort from the Barton sisters.
Best players for Quinty were Tameka Scott, Brooke and Olivia Tilyard, and shooters Hannah Finemore and Lana Duffy.
The best of Turvey Park were youngsters Kira Hallam, and Claudia and Lauren Barton, and the experienced Nicky Gallagher and Amanda Gooden.
Meanwhile, Shooting Stars easily accounted for Kooringal with a 38 goal win.
Shooting Stars started the game impressively with strong attacking play.
The Stars used the height of Olivia Lang to their advantage and accurate shooting from Flynn Hogg backed up Lang in the circle.
The onslaught did not stop after the quarter time break with Ruby Gooden and Jemima Norbury from the Stars picking off many passes in defence.
This in turn provided plenty of opportunities for the Stars shooters and they won the quarter by 22 goals.
Maddie McIntyre and Melissa Wheatley combined well together for Kooringal but just couldn’t add to the score line.
The Stars again won both the third and fourth quarters however a positive for Kooringal was the final term was the closest of the game between the two sides.
Maddie Kelly worked tirelessly for Kooringal in the centre court right throughout the game.
The Stars were able to make many positional changes and show their versatility and this worked to their advantage.
The competition now breaks for the school holidays.
On return, Turvey Park will take on New Kids Aces, and Kooringal will play ladder leaders Uranquinty on July 23.
Uranquinty leads the competition on 16 points, after six wins, no losses and two byes, and New Kids Aces follow closely behind on 13 points after four wins, a draw, a loss and two byes.
Shooting Stars are on nine points, Turvey Park’s on seven points and Kooringal still chases its maiden win, on three points for the season.
