THE Royal NSW Zone 8 bowling associations 2016 championships will be played over the following two weekend at Young Bowling Club.
WAGGA DISTRICT
THE 2016 Wagga & District pennant finals were played last weekend with the following results. Elimination finals: Grade 6: Rules Wagga Bowling Club (60) d Yerong Creek Bowling Club (58). Grade 7: Wagga Rules Bowling Club (84) d Ganmain Bowling Club (35).
Finals: Grade 3: Wagga RSL Bowling Club (finished first on ladder for grade). Grade 4: Coolamon Sport & Recreation Bowling Club (finished first on ladder for grade). Grade 5: Wagga Rules Bowling Club 65. Runner-up Wagga RSL Bowling Club 51. Grade 6: Junee Bowling Club 72. Runner-Up Wagga Rules Bowling Club 54. Grade 7: Wagga Rules Bowling Club 59. Runner-up Wagga Rules Bowling Club 46.
COOLAMON
PLAY in the Club Fours championship at Coolamon has started. John Dean, Bert Browning, Bob Thompson and Rick Whybro met Chris Fairweather, Alan Cain, Tom Birse and John Franklin last Sunday.
Franklin got away to a good start, winning the first two ends. Whybro fought back and evened the score on the fifth end.
Franklin kicked away again on the next end, claiming a four and continued to build his lead. When Whybro was six shots behind, he rallied his team and didn’t surrender the mat for the following five ends and a handy lead of nine shots.
Franklin’s team wasn’t done yet and claimed a seven on the next end, but that was as far as he got, Whybro won the mat for the next three ends and claimed the game 26/19.
The next games to be contested on or before June 5 are Bruce Mathew against Rick Whybro and Allan Weeden meets Puddles Armstrong.
Saturday jackpot bowls was taken out by Chris Fairweather and Puddles Armstrong with two wins plus 28. Runners-up were Alan Cain and John Franklin with two wins plus 22. The jackpot of $500 was not claimed.
Last Thursday, another beautiful day to be on the green, Len Brill, Athol Longley and Grahame McRay won the day with two strong wins from runners-up John Dean, Henk Hulsman and Allan Weeden.
Brill and company also were fortunate to claim the $200 jackpot. A great start for Grahame McRay who has only just started bowling with Coolamon Club. Last Saturday saw another attempt to win the major jackpot of $500. Wayne Pearse and Henk Hulsman paired up and managed two wins plus 22 from Runners-up Andre DeHaan and Bob Thompson. The jackpot was not claimed.
JUNEE
JUNEE were victorious at the Wagga & District Bowls Association grand final last Sunday, defeating The Rules Club 72 to 54. Contested at The Rock Bowling Club, Junee qualified for the grand final by finishing minor premiers after the home and away season.
The Rules Club booked their place in Sunday’s grand final by defeating Yerong Creek 60 to 58 the day before.
