In the afternoon the shoot was at 1000 yards with a sly wind changing strength and direction regularly. Hubert Hassall and Ben Goodwin seemed to get the better of it in F Class in a very close tussle. Dave Xuereb shot an excellent second stage and almost challenged Phil for the lead in Target Rifle. This was a trophy shoot and Ben Goodwin was the winner on handicap.
Next week’s shoot will be a 500 Yards. Hodgson Cup.
Results as follows:
Target Rifle Phil Bain-A-96.6, Dave Xuereb-A-95.8, Graham Crowe-A-92.8, Scott Brindley-A-92.7, Jeremy Westblade-B-89.3, Trahlon Lyons-C-81.4
F Class Ben Goodwin-FO-113.6, Hubert Hassall-FS-108.3, John Smoothy-FO-101.3.

THE mid-week riders ventured down the Old Narrandera Road to Matong then to Narrandera and took the Barellan Road and ducked across to Kamarah. They ended up at Temora for lunch and had the customary $10 special counter lunch at the old pub down the side street. After lunch they headed home, stopping at Wallacetown to bid their farewells.
There was no ride scheduled for the Sunday just past, nor is a ride planned for next Sunday. On June 5 we will have a ride to a mystery destination according to our new ride committee people.
Last Saturday there was a good roll up for Meet and Greet at Billy’s, once again in superb winter weather.
At the branch meeting last week a new committee was installed and those in the hot seats are: President - Pat Combs, secretary – Graeme White, treasurer – Elaine Scott, ride committee - Mick Ellis, Bob Middleton and Di Middleton, social committee - Gloria Hatter, Irene Burbidge and Lorraine Lawrence, newsletter editor – Denise Garner, webmaster – Mary Smith. The web page is www.ulysses-wagga.org.au.
As usual, mid-week rides leave Billy’s Café each Wednesday and please note, that apart from today, all rides will be departing at 9.30am and the later start will continue through June, July and August.
With the colder weather approaching it is a good idea to make sure your bike is up to scratch mechanically and your tyres are in good order with plenty of grip. Pay particular attention to your battery, the cold weather is the time when they tend to die.

Early starter, Don Thorne, set the standard in last Monday’s nine-hole Vets stroke event when he posted a score of 28 nett. Don’s score survived the efforts of fellow players, and he won by a shot from Ian Hitchman 29 nett, followed by Garry Forde, Bob Martin, John Wilson and Bruce Yeatman on 31 nett. In Thursday’s comp, Barney Matthews hit his straps with a terrific score of 24 nett to clear out from Bill O’Rourke 26, Roy Sanders 27, and Charlie Down and Tony Thompson, each with 28 nett.
The ladies played a Par event last Tuesday and in Division 1 Jenny Hazell’s score of -2 got her home on a c/b from June Byrnes, while in Division 2, it was just as close when Carol Martin scored -3 to win on a c/b from Marg O’Rourke. Colleen Mavroudis won Division 3 with a score of -1, with Pam Seymour runner-up on -2. NTP’s to Jenny Hazell and Sue Oakman.
Monica Kember handled last Friday’s tricky conditions well to score 34 stableford pts for a one-point win in Division 1 from Cassie Gill 33 pts, while Vi Gardner claimed the Division 2 event with 35 pts, from Carmel Pearce 34 pts. Ball comp to 28 pts on a c/b.
Last Wednesday’s members stroke event saw seasoned A Grader, Bob McKenzie, better his handicap to score 71 nett and beat Mick De Vries by a single shot. In B Grade, John McLeod netted 73 to get the main voucher, with Rex Kember runner-up on 74 nett. NTP’s to Dave Caplice and Roman Adamcewicz. Ball comp to 77 nett.
The scores were hot in Saturday’s May Monthly Medal stroke event, with Matt Tooze shooting around par to take out A Grade with 66 nett, from Warren Lynch 67, and Dave McGrath 72 nett on a c/b.
In B Grade, Josh Conlan scored 65 nett to win from Matt McMullen 66, and Roger Taylor 72 nett on a c/b. Phil Harrison carded 69 nett to beat Dean Merrigan 71, and Max Oakman 72 nett on a c/b, for the C Grade title. NTP’s to Steve Purcell, Peter Conlan and Kobi Nimmo. Ball comp to 77 net on a c/b.
The Business Girls kicked off their annual championships in the Kristopher Graydon-sponsored Business Girls Cup on Saturday. An in-form Pam Kellam set the early pace with a score of 73 nett, including a near-ace on the Par 3 18th, with her ball coming to rest only 45cms from the cup. It seems the other girls, led by Jo Williams on 77 nett, have some work to do if they are going to catch Pam.
Finally, the Nimmo boys dominated Sunday’s nine-hole stableford, with Zac claiming the main voucher with 20 pts, from Kobi, 17 pts.
