The genre is far from music for oldies or farmers with Wagga’s Country Music Festival stretching over four days.
“It’s all about poetry put to music,” Wagga’s Don Tuckwell said.
“It flies under the radar. It’s good audible music where you can follow a story in song.
“People will travel just to hear good old Australian country music.”
Mr Tuckwell said the festival was originally two days long, has grown over 30 years and now attracts the best performers of traditional Australian country music.
Wayne Horsburgh, Tom Maxwell, The Hoffmans, Laura Downing, Brian Letton, John and Chris Smith and Peter Coad and the Coad Sisters will feature.
Local performers include Junee’s Neil Smith – the Limping Poet, Benny from Bourke and Freida Harvey.
Tickets are available for the weekend, sessions or the day at the Commercial Club.
