This is the second year that the Civic Theatre has turned a winter week in June from a grey dreary average time into a party of laughs.
There is a broad selection of funniness on offer including headliners such as Joel Creasey, Hannah Gadsby, Frank Woodley, Sammy J & Randy, and Aunty Donna.
You might have seen Joel Creasey on Channel 10’s show I’m a Celebrity….Get Me Out of Here!
His show The Crown Prince is coming to Wagga Comedy Fest straight out of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
He’s one of Australia’s hottest comedy stars.
No one is safe and nothing is sacred.
Hannah Gadsby is a story teller with a joke rate that most dads at a family barbecue would envy.
In Dogmatic Hannah will attempt to explain the thought processes and woeful life choices that have led her to where she is today.
Although Hannah is best known for her pure comedy work, she also combines her comedy talents with her art qualifications (she has a degree in Art History and Curatorship) by presenting comedy art tours in conjunction with the National Gallery of Victoria.
Since 2009, Gadsby has presented tours with themes such as paintings of the Holy Virgin, Dadaism, Modernism, Impressionism and the nude in art.
Frank Woodley will have the children in your life rolling around laughing in the palm of his hand with his show Noodlenut.
It’s the perfect comedy introduction for children ages eight and above, with songs about sneezing, creating chaotic magic and impersonations of animals playing sport.
There are two Wagga locals who have recently performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and now rounding out Wagga Comedy Fest.
We’re classing Michelle Brasier and Dane Simpson as emerging talent as their comedy careers continue to achieve glowing reviews and support from within the industry.
On Wednesday, June 1 you can see Michelle’s show Space Tortoise, which she also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year.
The following night Dane will be hosting the Open Mic Night, so not only will you hear his material, you’ll see him support other locals as they step to the mic. T
his will also be the first Wagga Comedy Club event for 2016.
All the details for Wagga Comedy Fest shows are on the Civic Theatre’s website which is www.civictheatre.com.
Music at Midday and Music in the Evening
THE 2016 season of music featuring Australian Army Band Kapooka kicks off on Wednesday, May 11.
There will be two concerts – at noon and 6pm.
These concerts are a free community event and the theatre loves to see as many smiling faces enjoying the wonderful musicianship of our friends from Kapooka.
The May concerts will have a theme based around the music of Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald, and will feature musician Angie Currington on vocals as well as a couple of instrumental solos from members within the band.
New musical director, major Lindsay Mee will conduct the band as they perform some favourites including Too Darn Hot, Mack The Knife, Cheek to Cheek, Let’s Do It and many more.
The other two dates in this season are Wednesday, July 20 and Wednesday, September 7.
There will be a midday and evening performance for each of these days as well.
Tickets are available online at www.civictheatre.com.au, from the theatre, or give us a call on 6926 9688.
