Following years of experience in the racing industry, John Patton has been appointed to the role.
Patton worked in a number of roles of the Australian Jockey Club in Sydney, including working in the racing office.
He is excited by the opportunity.
“I was looking for a new challenge and what better way than with Wagga Greyhounds,” Patton said.
“It is a good opportunity to get the dogs to go forward.”
One of Patton’s aims is to help the club not only maintain its current racing schedule but see it increase to racing once a week.
In a change, the role of racing manager has become full-time.
Although a newcomer to greyhound racing, Wagga president Maurice Finemore believes his is the right man to take the club forward.
“We had eight applicants and with the experience (Patton) has had with racing we believe he is the perfect man for the job,” Finemore said.
Submissions for 26 race dates for the upcoming season closed on Friday.
Finemore said the club had done everything possible to maintain the status quo.
Young, Temora and Cowra also sent in submissions.
However, no time frame has been established for a decision is made by Greyhound Racing NSW.
