Located on Edel Quinn Lane, the service has been providing homeless men with a residential and outreach support program for the past 50 years, but with the arrival of new facilities the organisation can now offer the same care to women.
"Women experience homelessness too, not just men,” said Edel Quinn senior support worker Rachel Arthur. “It's important that we try to be as accessible as possible to as many groups as we can within the community.”
A redevelopment of the 16 rooms, which consist of a bed, desk, wardrobe and ensuite bathroom, means women can be given a private room in which they feel safe.
"Previously we didn't have the facilities to support women, but the new rooms have enabled us to provide co-ed living spaces,” Ms Arthur said. “We want to give them that initial level of comfort, food and shelter.”
