THE young might be looking forward to Santa leaving gifts under the tree – but for the young at heart it’s all about Christmas lunch.
Johnston Street’s Wesley Uniting Church will host more than 90 people for their annual Christmas lunch.
Volunteer co-ordinator Phil Sheather said it was about bringing the community together at Christmas.
“We’re not targeting anyone at any particular financial scale,” Mr Sheather said.
“There’s some who do it tough, but also people who are lonely or are elderly, maybe elderly people who will spend Christmas alone.”
Mr Sheather said a large number of retired professionals were guests as well as people who have lost a loved one during the year.
“It’s about making it a happy occasion instead of a sad one,” he said.
“Christmas lunch is the big thing for a lot of adults, where as Santa Claus is for the kids.”
Joining Mr Sheather in organising the lunch will be 25 volunteers who have received donations of food and gifts.
Wesley Uniting’s Christmas lunch starts at midday.
