The smoky mouse, a tiny, pale-grey rodent, was only previously known to populate an area on south coast of NSW.
Three of the mice were found last month for the first time in the Kosciuszko National Park.
“It’s such as thrill to see these three thriving individuals turn up,” ranger Gabriel Wilks said.
