The Yabbies have announced they will join a new competition that combines ACT Premier Division’s third and fourth grade teams with Monaro Rugby first division.
Young president Mick Hudson acknowledged the decision does not help fellow breakaway clubs Cootamundra and Temora but said the move as a strategic one for rugby in the Cherry Capital.
“The move to Central West was an attractive option for us, shortening travel loads on the players and families,” Hudson said.
“But the Canberra competition gives us quality opposition, enables our first and second grade to travel together and provides a pathway for juniors...so this is about the long-term strength of the game in Young.
“We’re really excited to be playing in the new competition and the other clubs have shown great patience in finding a way for us to join.”
