He tried not to think too much about it to start with but Cornell admits it has become harder and harder as the AFL Draft draws near.
“As the weeks have been getting closer and closer I’ve been getting a bit more nervous each time, not really knowing,” Cornell said.
“It’s exciting though, I’m looking forward to it.”
Cornell will head home to Wagga to watch Tuesday night’s draft with his mum Julie and his siblings.
The Ungarie and Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes junior admits he does not know what to expect.
“I’ve got no idea to tell you the truth,” he said.
“I’m trying to stay positive because I really don’t know what’s going to happen.
“The recruiters keep their cards close to their chest and don’t give much away.”
Representatives from Essendon and Fremantle have travelled to Wagga to sit down with Cornell, while a number of other clubs met with him at the AFL Combine.
“There hasn’t really been anything after the Combine,” he said.
“At the Combine I spoke to a few but since then it’s been pretty quiet.”
Cornell is part of the famous Daniher family from Ungarie with his mum Julie a sister to the four Essendon footballers.
Cornell was a member of the AIS AFL Academy last year and played several games with Greater Western Sydney’s reserves this year.
