GLOBAL racing giant Godolphin has decided to target Friday’s $55,000 Snake Gully Cup (1400m) for the first time.
Gundagai-Adelong Race Club have received 31 nominations for their feature race with Godolphin’s two entries the highlight.
Top Sydney trainer John O’Shea has nominated the son of champion mare Divine Madonna, Sanzio, and city-placed Bracteate.
O’Shea’s pair will meet a quality field, if the nominations are to be any indication.
Gundagai-Adelong Race Club secretary Len Tozer is thrilled with the nominations.
“They’re fantastic nominations, especially the quality in the Cup, it’s up there with the best we’ve had for a number of years,” Tozer said.
“Godolphin have two in, we didn’t expect that so that’s breaking new ground for us.
“Marc Conners and Matt Dale have got horses in as well, it’s excellent.”
The club received 172 nominations for the eight-race card on Friday, along with another 177 for Saturday’s seven-race Hair of the Dog day.
The Gundagai track was rated a soft five on Monday morning but showers are forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
“I expect it to be up to a (good) four by (Tuesday),” Tozer said.
“The track is in good condition, it’s all up to the weather gods now and what they do to us.
“We’ve got perfect racing conditions at the moment.”
