THE inaugural fundraiser for Ladysmith Public School and Wagga’s Ronald McDonald House was a success.
Organisers had hoped for at least 100 entrants in the Ladysmith Duathlon on Sunday, and expectations were exceeded with 110 people turning out for the event.
The community raised $3,000 and funds will be split evenly between the two organisations.
An Albury entrant, Brendan Murray, was the clear winner of the classic duathlon, finishing the 6km run and 30km ride in an hour, 10 minutes and 50 seconds, four minutes ahead of second-placed Anthony Sleeman.
“Everyone wants it again next year, we had good positive feedback, Brendan was saying it was a tough ride but a really well set-out course,” organiser Lisa Eady said.
The event attracted the serious athletes and beginners alike, with 44 entrants in the classic event, and the rest spread across enticer, try a duathlon and junior events.
