WAGGA police have detained two men in custody following a dramatic chase through the city.
“We believe they are responsible for a large number of break-ins over the last month,” Inspector Peter Robertson said.
The chase began following reports of a stolen motorbike from a Bourkelands property on Wednesday morning.
A pursuit in Ashmont was terminated because of safety concerns by police, who then put a call out for the people they were after.
Inspector Robertson said help from the public led to the arrest of the men who were reported to be travelling through the suburbs of Glenfield, Tolland and Mount Austin.
A large police presence converged on central Wagga on Wednesday morning including highway patrol and the dog squad as officers cordoned off areas around sightings of the pair were reported.
“We received reported sightings while we were out looking which has been invaluable,” Inspector Robertson said.
He said the two men in custody were being interviewed by police before charges are to be laid and it’s expected the bike used by the pair will be seized.
