A WAGGA City councillor has made a passionate plea for road naming requests to acknowledge the contribution local women have made to the community.
Cr Kevin Poynter has asked the public to consider submitting road naming requests that reflect women who have helped shape the city because the overwhelming majority of requests received refer to men.
“I urge our community to not only think about men, but how their mothers and grandmothers also contribute to our community,” he said.
Cr Kendall pointed to the contribution of CWA and Cr Mary Kidson as potential requests.
Several Wagga roads are already named after prominent women, such as Boswell Street, Tolland, named after Lina Boswell who was organist at Wesley Church for 60 years and heavily involved in various charities.
