The project will see the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) work with non-government organisations, FACS and other government agencies in expanding the service system around public housing areas in Tolland and Kooringal.
Wagga MP Daryl Maguire welcomed the funding and said the project, which has a particular focus on vulnerable children and young people, would take a collaborative approach to addressing a range of social issues in the area.
“Community safety has been highlighted as a significant issue in the Tolland and Kooringal estates and has contributed to a number of other social issues that we as a socially responsible community need to address,” Mr Maguire said.
“Unfortunately drug and alcohol issues have led to an increase in anti-social behaviour in Tolland and Kooringal which in-turn has an impact on the education and employment of young people, mental health, poor school attendance and a reliance on welfare.”
