A critical investigation has been launched following the fatal shooting of a man in Young on Friday night.
Police from Cootamundra Local Area Command spoke with a man on Cloete Street at 11.45pm on Friday after he was seen with a firearm.
A short time later, the man sustained a gunshot wound and died at the scene.
No police firearms were discharged and no officers were injured.
A critical incident team from The Hume Local Area Command will investigate the circumstances and all information will be provided to the Coroner, who will determine the cause of death.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
