A country boy from Bathurst, Bob excelled academically and as a sportsperson.
He won his way into Sydney University on a scholarship to become a teacher. His credentials were an entrée to explore much of NSW.
Patricia McPherson captured his heart. They married in 1955 and raised five daughters and a son together until her death in 1999.
Many students from Deniliquin, Yanco and Crookwell schools will be better off for having Bob as their deputy principal, principal and mentor during his 42 year teaching career.
Bob’s achievements as a dedicated Lion are remarkable. He was a charter member of Yanco Lions Club before moving to Crookwell Lions Club in 1978 then Narrandera Lions Club in 1989. During his Lions “career” he has held numerous executive positions.
In Narrandera alone, he has held every board position being president, secretary nine times and treasurer four times.
In addition to having a 100 per cent attendance record over 27 years, Bob has also received International Lions highest honour, the Melvin Jones Fellowship.
