MORE than 98 per cent of smart phone users now have access to an emergency app.
The Triple-0 app was introduced in 2013 for iOs and Android services, with the Windows version rolled out this week.
Research revealed more than 65 per cent of calls to Triple-0 are made from mobile phones, but callers not knowing their exact location means prolonged call-processing times making call-takers unavailable for the next emergency call.
The app, developed by the Triple Zero Awareness Work Group, allows people to dial the correct number, and reduce the number of calls to Triple-0 that should be directed to another service, such as the SES and police assistance line.
When activated, the features of a smartphone will also describe aloud what appears on-screen, so a caller can use the app without seeing it. The free app can be downloaded at emergencyapp.triplezero.gov.au.
