A CENTURY-old tree has been removed from Victory Memorial Gardens due to safety concerns.
It took three hours for council contractors to remove the 19-metre Bunya Pine, believed to have been planted between 1910 and 1920, after three arborists declared its significant lean unsafe. It will be replaced with the related Queensland Kauri Pine.
“It’s a bit of an old friend,” council’s environmental and community services director, Janice Summerhayes, said. “Over time, it will get its glory again.”
