SOUTH Wagga arrived at Young with a 12 man squad on Sunday, hoping to defeat the top-ranked team with just one reinforcement and without key player Bai Fahnbulleh, who had been penalised a week earlier.
Young crushed South Wagga’s hopes early on in the match, leading 3-0 by half time and rendering them scoreless until the final whistle.
“It was good to beat a top four side,” Young coach Mark Mellish said.
“We pressured them from the start, and we were able to scramble well when they had possession.”
Young’s Caylum Barber scored two and Duncan Cameron scored one.
“We dropped the intensity in the second half,” Mellish said,
Mellish expects a more concerted effort from his team next week as they play Wagga United.
“They’re the most technical team of the competition,” he said.
