Henschke claimed back-to-back regional finals with a 38-point win over South Wagga Public School under lights at Robertson Oval on Wednesday.
The final, traditionally held as a curtain raiser to the Carroll Cup, was postponed due to a clash with the schoolboy state carnival in Sydney.
The wait proved worthwhile for Henschke as they produced an impressive four-quarter display.
Henschke coach Mark Richards said his team played in the spirit of the Wagga man the competition is named after.
“There are some pretty talented kids in that team and being a big school, they’ve got a lot more players to pick from than the smaller schools,” Richards said.
“The boys played in the spirit of Paul Kelly, they played hard and fair and gave 100 per cent.
“The school kids take it pretty serious and their endeavour for the ball and the contest was good.”
Billy Glanvill kicked four goals for Henschke in a strong performance, while Sam Emery and Pat Voss were standouts.
South Wagga went in without a couple of their key players, but were well served by Luke Fellows and Ethan Weidemann.
Henschke will now progress to the next stage, to be held in Wagga on June 18.
Henschke will be without a couple of players due to the rugby league state carnival in Sydney and will face a tough challenge in taking on winning schools from Albury, Deniliquin and the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA).
The winner of those four teams will progress through to the state final at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
