Prominent Wagga man Michael Georgiou recently celebrated his greatest accomplishment to date – his 50th wedding anniversary to his wife, Dawn.
Mr Georgiou has been involved in the Wagga community for more than 60 years but prides himself most on his dedication to his family, which is about to expand by one tiny addition.
Mr Georgiou said the pending arrival of his first grandchild is the best anniversary present.
“I couldn’t ask for anything better,” he said.
Mr Georgiou owned Michael’s Delicatessen for 35 years, was a presenter and treasurer for 2AAA and is a former councillor and deputy mayor.
He was involved with school P&C organisations, cubs and air cadets when his only son, Nicholas, was at school.
He’s also been an iconic figure with the Greek Orthodox community in Wagga.
He met Dawn in Melbourne and they were married on May 23, 1965 at the Greek Orthodox Church in Wagga.
“Love, trust and understanding – when all those exist I think you’ve got a happy married life,” he said.
