SOUTHERN Inland Rugby Union (SIRU) have made a number of changes to their representative squad for next month’s Brumbies Provincial Tournament.
SIRU went down 20-15 to Central North in the second division final in their return to the NSW Country Championships earlier this month.
SIRU coach Richard Turnbull had included eight new players into the squad from the trip to Bowral.
Waratahs hooker Jock Munro comes into the 23-man squad, as does Albury’s new South African recruit Lex Botha, who has not even played a game for the Steamers as yet.
The Steamers make up a third of the SIRU squad with eight players named courtesy of their strong start to the season.
Leeton’s Bill Bevan and Pita Volau, along with Tumut’s Peter Vorster, are among others to be included.
The Brumbies Provincial Tournament will be held at Wagga’s Conolly Park on the June long weekend, June 6-8.
The SIRU squad will train on Friday night for the first time, and then again on Friday June 5, in preparation for the tournament.
SIRU will take on South Coast Marlins on June 6, South Australia on June 7 and then Monaro on June 8 as part of the tournament.
A Brumbies Provincial representative team will then be selected to play NSW Country at Canberra Stadium on Saturday June 13.
They will play as a curtain raiser to the Brumbies versus Crusaders Super rugby game.
