Coorparoo Park and Rehabilitation Centre has constructed an equine water walker that is set to give country trainer’s a taste of the city.
After discussions with harness racing trainers Russell Jack and Amanda Turnbull, Coorparoo Park’s Lynne Bodell and her partner Rob Thomas went about constructing a water walker at their property off the old Narrandera Road.
It is believed to be one of the few equine water walkers outside of Sydney and Melbourne.
“It’s about $500,000 to buy one but this has been an awful lot less,” Bodell said.
“It’s still a little bit of a learning curve but it’s functioning really well and a lot of trainers I’ve spoken to are really interested.”
Coorparoo offers an on-farm service where horses are kept on site and regularly use the water walkers, or a morning visit.
Wagga trainer Tim Donnelly is a big fan and believes the water walker is a huge benefit to the region’s horse trainers.
“I’ve sent both Devised and Angus Rock to the water walkers this preparation and it’s fantastic, it’s good for horses with problems but also gives them a break from their routines,” he said.
“It’s going to be good for all trainers because it’s open for anyone to use.”
