- More than 400 entries have been received for the 17th presentation of the Golden Gown Awards to be held at the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Most accommodation in Wagga has been booked out with the inaugural $20,000 Pro-Am Tournament at Wagga Golf Club to be followed by the three day $250,000 Wagga Gold Cup racing carnival.
- Sheffield Shield skipper and former Wagga cricketer Geoff Lawson was in Wagga to present trophies to Tatton Public School students.
- Wagga’s Christian College, which is housed temporarily at St Paul’s Anglican Church, was officially opened by the Member for Hume, Mr Wal Fife. Member for Wagga, Joe Schipp presented a flag to class representatives.
- Sir David Martin, Governor of NSW officially opened the new intensive care / coronary care ward at Wagga Base Hospital. He is pictured with Hospital Board Chairman, Harry Hutton and local member, Joe Schipp.
- During his visit the Governor also unveiled a foundation stone for the Haven’s new dementia wing. More than 280 guests attended and all were welcomed by Chairman of the Haven’s Board of Management, Mr John Mueller.
50 Years Ago
- Mr Wal Fife was returned as NSW State member for Wagga with the largest majority ever in the Wagga Electorate.
- The Cassidy Bridge, a new pedestrian bridge, between Brookong Avenue and Kildare Avenue, costing £7500 was officially opened by Miss B H Cassidy, a former headmistress of the Gurwood Street Demonstration School and daughter of Mr David Cassidy after whom the bridge was named.
- Wagga Apex Club held a wood drive with firewood delivered to your home for £3/10/- a ton.
- Sean Connery and Honor Blackman were staring in Ian Flemings “Goldfinger” being screened at Wagga’s Plaza Theatre.
- M Rava and Company which was founded by Mick Rava at Grong Grong in 1923 is celebrating its 42nd Anniversary. Today the company, based in Wagga employs 63 people selling and servicing goods all over the Riverina.
- Retiring president of Wagga Legacy, Mr John Woods has handed over to his successor, Mr W A Webster at an official dinner attended by more than 90 guests and members.
