ORGANISERS are preparing for wet conditions in the $5000 Tolland Open over Saturday and Sunday.
The event will go ahead rain, hail or shine but wet conditions look likely for the return of Tolland Cycling Club’s feature event.
A star-studded field has come together for the two road races, including two current world champions.
Also among the field is Neil Van Der Ploeg, who claimed two stages at the recent Tour de Adelaide.
Wagga cycling legend Barry O’Hagan said Van Der Ploeg is just another quality cyclist among the 100-strong field.
“He would be the best bike rider in Australia that’s not overseas at the moment,” O’Hagan said.
“He got a first and a third at the nationals and won a couple of stages of the Tour de Adelaide.”
Seven groups will contest the handicap with 26 minutes separating the limit group to the scratch markers.
Andrew Francis and Jake Brooker are considered best positioned of the locals after the release of the handicaps.
Racing begins at 1pm Saturday and 10am on Sunday.
