Couple Bob and Zelma Parkes, who are from Milvale, near Young, can relate; they reckon their white Mitsubishi Magna is haunted, too.
They say strange things have been happening to their car since they bought it five years ago.
It all started when they were parking it every day outside their home – the old Milvale general store and post office, which they also said was haunted.
The radio was the first to go, with Zelma initially blaming Bob for playing with the tuner.
“But it changed station every time I turned the car off, now the CD player opens and closes itself and all the lights on it flash,” she said.
“We think the ghosts (from the house) got in the car.”
Zelma also said her handbag moved from the front seat to the back seat while her and Bob were in the car.
One of the remote controls for the car has also gone missing and one day Zelma found six of Bob’s singlets - some clean, some worn - in the car, which Bob swears he never put in there.
“I was a skeptic before this … I do believe there are ghosts in the car; God strike me dead if I was lying,” Bob said.
Enter the “ghostbuster mechanic” Phil “Froggy” Moore.
Monday certainly wasn’t the average day at work for Mr Moore, who was asked by the couple to fix the locks on the car.
According to the Parkes’, the locks needed fixing because they kept locking and unlocking at will.
“They’ve been telling me about this for years,” he explained.
“I’ve never seen anything … but no one from here (Moore’s Exhaust) wanted to jump in the car because of the stories.”
He said he was giving the car a full check over, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
“Just to see what the story is,” he said.
“I’m going to run the scanner to check out the car’s computer, to rule out any evil spirits. Why a mechanic? Who better than a mechanic to do this.”
It’s not the first time Mr Moore has heard of the chilling tales from the pair, who have been his customers for eight years.
