Groups of adults shrieked like school girls as they packed Wagga Bowling and Entertainment Centre for the launch of the region’s first 9D Action Cinema.
Six people filed into a small dark room and boarded a rectangular cart.
They buckled up, slapped on a pair of yellow snazzy glasses and picked one of 10 action-themed movies.
The movies varied from spindly spiders to avalanches of furious snow.
As the cart twisted and turned, 9Dimensioners were treated to an array of special effects: wind, snow, fog, lightning, smoke and bubbles.
This reporter jumped out of her seat when a virtual tree branched nearly speared her in the eye.
Wagga’s Vicki Moran found the experience exciting.
“It was awesome,” Ms Moran said, who went on the ride with her adult daughter.
“It felt like you were really doing it.
“You were being impaled by trees and rocks.”
The 9Dimensioners, thrown around by the experience, were keen to try the ride again.
Wagga Bowling and Entertainment Centre owner Andrew Ward first came across the 9D experience at an overseas conference.
In a bid to expand the appeal of the centre and make it an all ages entertainment destination, Mr Ward decided to bring the cinema to Wagga.
“I was at an overseas convention and a 9D cinema was being featured,” Mr Ward said.
“I thought it was the best thing I had seen in a long time and thought I should bring one back to town.
“We had the space and we were looking for something else to expand out entertainment portfolios at the centre.”
The cinema is the only one of its kind within a 500-kilometre radius.
Centre manager Jessica Grant said the response had been outstanding.
“We’ve had nothing but positive responses,” Ms Grant said.
“There is something for all ages.”
