Desmond Eric Richards, also known as Brother Neil, was sentenced in the Downing Centre District Court on Thursday.
He was given a sentence of three years and three months, with a non-parole period of two years.
Richards has been in custody since November 7 when Judge Peter Zahra revoked his bail, saying then that Richards had been quite violent, if not cruel, to his victims.
Richards earlier pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting the four boys, aged between 11 and 13.
The court heard allegations Richards whipped the boys with a strap after assaulting them.
