SYDNEY Swans and Greater Western Sydney will visit Wagga as part of its AFL community camps in February.
Players from the two AFL clubs will visit schools, hospitals and local football clubs in Wagga as part of the annual community camps.
The Giants have earmarked February 17 and 18 for the visit, while the Swans plan to send players down for February 23 and 24 but both dates are subject to change.
AFL Southern NSW development manager Marc Geppert described it as a big coup for the region.
"It's a huge get for the region," Geppert said.
"It's not just going to be based in Wagga, the Giants will go to Griffith, Broken Hill and Albury as well, so it will be a bit of a roadshow over the two days.
"We'll try to get to as many schools, community groups and footy clubs as we can in the two days and maximise the opportunity.
"It's exciting and it's perfect timing for us.
"It's a handy tool to be able to recruit kids into playing junior footy at their local club."
GWS chief executive David Matthews is glad the Giants can continue their work in Southern NSW.
"Canberra and southern NSW are integral parts of the Giants and we love getting out and meeting fans in this region," Matthews said.
"We're building a strong fan base there and it's reflected in the number of people playing the game and attending AFL matches.
"2015 promises to be a big year for AFL in Canberra with our Anzac Day match against Gold Coast, games against big Victorian clubs Geelong and Melbourne as well as a NAB Challenge match against the Sydney Swans."
Sydney coach John Longmire, originally from Corowa, is happy to send players to the Riverina.
"The community camps are a great initiative and something the playing group really enjoy each year," Longmire said.
"It's great for the club to spend a few days in the community and to get out and about visiting fans in regional areas.
"The community camps are always a great way to kick off the year just ahead of the pre-season competition."
It has been confirmed that four Swans players will take the trip to Wagga, with Turvey Park product Harry Cunningham expected to be part of the contingent.
