NEW Barellan captain-coach Will Overs is confident of a bright future for the Two Blues as he prepares to lead the club's return to the Farrer League.
Just days after Barellan was accepted into the Farrer League, the good news kept on coming for the Two Blues as Overs agreed on a return to captain-coach his home club.
Overs returns after a great deal of experience in Canberra, Queensland and most recently at Leeton-Whitton, and he is confident anything is possible for Barellan in the Farrer League.
"We think we're definitely going to be competitive," Overs said yesterday.
"My experience tells me that if you can put the opposition side under pressure, then anything's possible.
"If you can tackle and defend hard, then use the footy when you've got it, then you're going to be competitive against any side.
"Getting our local juniors back is the first thing, then hopefully we can add a bit of polish at the top.
"Time will tell anyway."
Barellan only won the one game this year in the Northern Riverina Football League and finished on the bottom of the ladder.
The year before, the Two Blues were beaten by Tullibigeal in the grand final.
Overs, 25, hopes a move to the Farrer League can provide the boost Barellan needs.
"The club, but the community more so," he said.
"Hopefully this is the jab in the arm the community needs and they get right behind us."
Overs left Barellan as a 16-year-old when he linked AFL Canberra club Tuggeranong.
He spent four years at Tuggeranong, then three years with Redland in the North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL).
Overs returned to the Riverina to play at Leeton-Whitton in 2012 and served as the Crows' assistant coach under David Meline this year.
He arrives back at Barellan after three years at the Crows and not only provides the Two Blues with an experienced leader, but a talented key position player.
Overs said it is an honour to coach Barellan.
"It's something I've always wanted to do," he said.
"I've always said to the boys that I would come back and coach Barellan before I coached anywhere else so I'm sticking to my word.
"I'm very proud."
One Barellan junior that Overs is looking forward to working with is Mitch Conlan, after he claimed the Farrer League under 17's David Oehm Medal, for the competition's best and fairest player, plus the league goalkicking this season at Northern Jets.
Marrar defender Matt Irvin, along with Wagga Tigers duo Mitch Hawker and Shaun Bourchier, are some of the juniors playing at AFL Riverina clubs that Barellan would love to get back.
