This time a Melbourne child care centre has objected to their children singing Baa Baa Black Sheep.
Fortunately there has been an outcry about the decision so hopefully commonsense will prevail.
However the centre management believes the famous nursery rhyme is offensive on two fronts.
They are concerned the use of the word "black" could be construed as racist, while they are also troubled by the sexist connotation of the line: "one for the little boy who lives down the lane".
Unbelievable.
It gets worse. The pre-school is now adopting a new version of the classic in which the children can adopt any colour sheep they wish.
The centre is also reviewing the 'little boy down the lane' line to something a little more gender neutral.
The nursery rhyme has been with us since 1744.
Well just when you think political correctness couldn't get any worse, along comes this sad debacle.
Apparently the changes are being implemented to mirror Australia's growing multi-cultural society.
"Tolerance" and "acceptance" are now the new buzz words.
In recent years we have seen Christmas carols banned from some children's institutions while others have changed the word "gay" in some classics.
Actually, you would think by changing the lyrics it's only drawing attention to the perceived adult stereotypes anyway.
Surely it's time to let kids just be kids.
This child care centre should just let these pre-schoolers have fun without inflicting their own prejudices upon them.
The whole scenario is ridiculous in the extreme.
