TURVEY Park showed there is still life in its season with a thrilling five-point victory over Narrandera at Maher Oval on Saturday.
The Bulldogs ended their six-game losing streak by grinding out a tough win, 12.12 (84) to 11.13 (79).
Turvey Park looked home when captain-coach Chris Cerato kicked truly at the 16 minute mark of the final term to put the Bulldogs 16 points clear.
But a couple of late goals from Narrandera's Steve Irons gave the Eagles hope, then the ball was deep in the visitors forward line when the siren sounded.
It was a gusty effort from the Bulldogs, who stood tall in the second half.
The scores were locked together after an even first half but it was Turvey Park who lifted when the game was on the line.
Cerato could not have been prouder of his team.
"A lot of young blokes that we've blooded, it's great to get some reward for those blokes playing their first game of senior footy and reward for the blokes who have been turning up week in, week out," Cerato said.
"There's not much there to play for so it's great to get a win at home in front of the junior club as well. It was junior senior day today.
"So it was great that we stood up and got over the line.
"There was nothing flash about it but a few blokes stood up at the right time."
Turvey Park was able to get one back on Narrandera, who upset the Bulldogs when they were travelling a lot better earlier in the year.
The win was also important to the club as it all but assures the Bulldogs that they will not finish with the wooden spoon.
"We've been on the wrong side of a few close ones and sort of on the receiving end of a few floggings so it's great that the boys dug deep and pushed both ways," he said.
"We're coming from last, we've copped a few floggings the last couple of years, well and truly, so we do have something to play for.
"We don't want to finish last and I don't think we'll finish last now so I sort of mentioned that a while ago.
"We don't have a lot to play for but as a club we've got to keep improving and these young blokes are going to keep growing from that.
"Winning a close one goes a long way toward their development in the future."
Cerato was brilliant for Turvey Park, leading from the front.
Chase Grintell was another to shine, while Jesse Cunningham, Hayden Ashcroft and Jack Brooks, who finished with four goals, all played well.
Steve Irons was outstanding for Narrandera in defeat and had claims for best-on-ground honours, despite playing in the losing team.
Mark Flack and Tim Sullivan were others to stand out in an also undermanned Narrandera team.
