TEMORA is still finding its feet in the Football Wagga soccer competition but the club is already etching its name into the history books.
In what is believed to be a first for the association, Temora has successfully registered a female to play in the men's first grade Pascoe Cup division.
Angela Barclay lined up for the club's opening game last weekend and will take to the park again tomorrow for round three.
She played in defence and impressed Temora president Chris Marsh, who yesterday praised the new Football Wagga committee for allowing Barclay to play.
"(Barclay) has spent a lot of time playing in our over 35s competitions and she performed admirably last week," Marsh said.
"She played in the backs and did a good job.
"I have to point out the flexibility of the association in allowing her to play is much appreciated.
"They could see she was a solid player and she's another senior player we can add to our list, which is great for the club."
Barclay will line up on her home pitch tomorrow to help take on Junee.
After being lumped with the first-round bye, Temora opened its season with a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Tumut last week.
While the scoreline appears grim, Marsh was relatively pleased with the club's return to Football Wagga.
"I was actually stoked with that performance, we were very happy," Marsh said.
"After Tumut had beaten South Wagga by 11 goals the week before, and we were only a couple of goals down at half time, I thought we played quite well."
Temora has thrown its Pascoe Cup team together with a mix of juniors and veteran players.
Marsh isn't under any illusions his club is going to win the premiership but says there are positive signs for the year ahead.
"We are trying to encourage a couple of old players back at the moment, and our juniors are still getting up to speed," he said.
"Basically we want to be improving on our performance week to week and hopefully we can start knocking off a few teams."
Junee will be out to build on a 6-0 win over South Wagga a week ago.
