The 39-year-old, nicknamed Fazz, was farewelled at a funeral service in Wagga yesterday and is being remembered as an “alpha Australian male” who was “arguably the best arguer”.
Two of John’s best mates, Luke Sydenham and John McLean, told The Daily Advertiser he was a bloke who, even when he knew he was wrong, loved to antagonise everyone – they’ve never met anyone like him.
John’s life was cut short on July 8 when the truck he was driving left Travers Street, mounted the kerb and hit with a tree.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics for cardiac arrest, but was pronounced dead on arrival at Wagga Base Hospital.
Known as an outspoken “character”, John is survived by partner, and best mate, Jennifer, and his three boys William, Ethan and Ryan.
“He loved his boys, loved his mates and everything in between ... a hardworking and doting father,” Mr McLean said.
“John was never misunderstood, he was who he was,” Mr Sydenham said.
“He was a family and friends man.”
John worked for Toll Ipec completing his delivery route through the city, a job he had done for more than five years.
It was a job he loved so much he’d be known to make himself available on a day off and enjoyed the daily interaction with everyone on his run.
“He never forgot anything, if you helped him out, he’d remember and surprise you one day,” Mr McLean said.
“Even lending you $10 for a packet of smokes, two years later he’d have a $100 gift for you.
“Everybody needs a John Farrelly in their lives,” he said.
