SOUTHCITY has launched a search for a new front-rower after the collapse of plans to sign New Zealand strongman Jaye Pukepuke.
Bulls captain-coach Daniel Fitzhenry yesterday revealed the proposed deal with Pukepuke had fallen through, forcing the Wagga club to go for other targets.
Fitzhenry said Pukepuke's decision not to come to Wagga was a serious setback.
"We're already talking to other blokes from inside the group," Fitzhenry said.
"Hopefully something will be sorted out before the pre-season competition."
With Pukepuke off the radar, Southcity will unleash star English recruit Shaun Ainscough at the West Wyalong Knockout on Friday and Saturday week, while gun Wagga products Tim Hurst and Jordan Shepherd will also turn out for the Bulls.
"I'll name the squad for West Wyalong early next week," Fitzhenry said.
"It'll be a mixture of a couple of young kids and the experienced players. I'll be having a bit of run myself."
