At a hearing yesterday, magistrate Roger Clisdell sided with the police prosecution discounting statements provided by Ryan that the incident was the result of him attempting to manoeuvre his car to avoid a collision.
The charges stem from an incident on September 22 last year when Ryan's ex-wife Carolyn Davies was driving along Monte Cristo Road to drop her son off at his grandparents' house.
At the same time Ryan was leaving the property and upon reaching a fork in the road, the two cars collided with Ryan giving a different version of events to Ms Davies and her son Lewis Ryan.
Ryan's solicitor Angus Harrowell told the court Ryan believed his ex-wife was going to pass him on the road and moved to the left to allow room for the car to pass and avoid a collision.
But, Ms Davies turned her car onto another fork in the road without indicating causing Ryan to quickly break leading his car wheels to lock and slide across a patch of grass into Ms Davies' vehicle.
However, Mr Clisdell said photographic evidence did not support Ryan's version of events.
"It seems to me the car turned so sharply it hit the offside of his vehicle to the side of her vehicle," Mr Clisdell said.
"I am satisfied that constitutes negligent driving.
"I reject the evidence provided by Ryan when it has been contradicted by every other witness."
Labelling the incident as a "brain explosion" by Ryan, potentially spar-ked by the break down of his relationship with his ex-wife, Mr Clisdell said he believed Ryan had no intention of hurting his ex-wife and stepson.
"I don't think he was trying to hurt someone as the police would have charged him with much worse."
Ryan was fined $500 plus court costs.
